From Wednesday 24th September – and until Sunday 12th October – we’ll be celebrating all things Bavarian, transforming our Taproom into our own German beer hall.
Expect authentic German food, world-class beers, and plenty of Gemütlichkeit (that’s a cosy, festive atmosphere, Bavarian-style).
The Beers
This year, we’re showcasing a brand new line-up alongside our own award-winning Bellfield classics. On tap you’ll find:
-
Bellfield Festbier – our seasonal amber lager, rich and malty with a smooth finish
-
Bellfield Bohemian Pilsner - classic Czech pilsner, pale with a light body, slight background bitterness and gentle floral tones from the finest Saaz hops
-
Bellfield Lager Libre - a mexican-inspired straw/gold lager, brewed with additions of maize and agave syrup. Kohatu and Celeia hops add spiciness; whilst lime zest and the Neomexicanus hop, Sabro provide fruity, citrusy notes to round out this beer.
-
Bellfield Ace Lager - A refreshing straw-colored table lager with a sparkling clarity and a fluffy head. Featuring delicate malt flavours, and a clean, herbal, lemon-lime finish
-
Bellfield Lucky Spence IPA - A highly flavoursome and aromatic sessionable IPA that uses Citra hops, Lucky Spence IPA has a lush, fruity character with an assertive bitterness.
-
Belfield Lawless Village IPA - A copper coloured, aromatic beer brewed as a traditional American IPA made with pale and crystal malts and Cascade and Centennial American hops
-
Bellfield Joppa Juice IPA - with a rich body and featuring a bright, golden hue, we've double dry-hopped this new IPA with El Dorado, Ella, and Galaxy.
-
Bellfield Fire Island IPA - this American red IPA is a collaboration with Edinburgh Art Festival. Tropical flavours from the Citra and El Dorado hops combine with a deep malty character to create a full bodied alcohol free beer.
Note: Every Bellfield beer you know and love remains certified - by UKAS accredited lab - gluten free and vegan.
Guest Beers
- 71 Brewing - Ein Prosit Festbier - 5.4% - Smooth / Crisp / Malty. "Ein Prosit Der Gemütlichkeit!" A toast to well-being. This Dundonian take on a classic Oktoberfest lager brewed with traditional German malts and hops. Amber, malty, with a balancing bitterness brewed to keep those steins flowing. Oans, zwoa, drei, gsuffa! Contains: Cereals containing gluten. Vegan friendly
- Closet Brewing - Freudian Slip - Vienna Lager // 5.1%. When you think of Vienna, after delicious lagers and certain 80’s synth-pop songs, you may be reminded of the much-debunked “Father of Psychology”. We’ve paired these two Austrian icons to create a campy, dark Vienna lager with a subtly nutty undertone.
- Full Circle - German IPA - German hops Huell Melon and Callista build the prominent hoppy core of this German IPA, which is piney and floral with a malty backbone and a subtle hint of spice. The perfect tipple for Oktoberfest and all of the delicious German inspired beers that come with it. Full Circle’s take on the traditional full bodied and malty lager for the Oktoberfest celebrations.
- Twisted Barrel - PROST - A classic German lager brewed especially for Oktoberfest! Floral hops layered over a soft, bready malt base, brewed with all German ingredients for an authentic flavour. Gluten free. Gluten Free.
- Hackney Church Brew Co - Würst Behaviour - A Festbier built for nights that start with “just one” and end with lederhosen-fuelled dance-offs under the Oktoberfest lights. Smooth, golden malts bring a bready sweetness, while Hallertau Mittelfrüh and Callista hops drop a mix of floral spice, citrus, and a hint of juicy berries. It’s crisp, clean, and way too easy to drink. Consider yourself warned. So grab a can (or Maß), find a pretzel, and let your Würst Behaviour shine. Because Oktoberfest only comes once a year… and it’s definitely not for the well-behaved.
The Food
We’ll be serving up at least five traditional German sausages – with vegan and gluten free options – including Currywurst, Bratwurst, and Krakauer frankfurters.
To soak up all that beer, the menu also includes:
-
Fries with house-made curry ketchup or mayo
-
Giant Bavarian pretzels
-
Obatzda (our take on the traditional beer-and-cheese dip)
-
Classic potato salad (GF and vegan options available)
Dogtoberfest
Our four-legged friends haven’t been forgotten! Dogtoberfest returns with a donation from every pint of Festbeier sold over Dogtoberfest weekend (4th - 5th October) going to Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home.
We’ll also reprise our popular “Rate My Dog” competition on social media – tag us in your best Oktoberfest dog pics and the top-rated pooch will win a beer box.
A Little History
Oktoberfest dates back to 1810 and a royal wedding in Munich that turned into a city-wide party. It grew over the years into the iconic celebration we know today – with huge beer tents, music, food, and of course, special Oktoberfest beers.
Originally, those beers were darker and smokier thanks to traditional malting over open flames. These days, advances in brewing mean Oktoberfest styles range from deep amber Märzens to golden Festbiers – all malty, smooth, and perfect for celebrating.
